English

Spiritual health (SH) is a significant dimension of health, influencing other health dimensions. This study aimed to explore the relationship between SH and academic achievement of students at Jahrom University of Medical Sciences (JUMS).
Materials and methods: This cross-sectional analytical study was conducted on 400 students from JUMS using a random stratified sampling method. Data were collected using a questionnaire included demographic variables, the Iranian Academy of Medical Sciences Spiritual Health Questionnaire (IAMSSHQ), and the students' grade point average (GPA).
Results: The average age of the students was 20.6 ± 2.7 and 57% were female. The average total SH score was 196.2 ± 31. There was no significant difference in the total SH score or its domains (insight, attitude, and behavior) between male and female. A significant positive correlation was found between the total SH score (r = 0.25, p < 0.001) and the domains of insight (r = 0.23, p < 0.001), attitude (r = 0.26, p < 0.001), and behavior (r = 0.21, p < 0.001) with the GPA. Besides, SH had a significant relationship with economic status, but it had no significant relationship with other demographic variables. Furthermore, a significant relationship was observed between students' GPA and age, gender, field of study, and economic status (p < 0.05).
Conclusion: The students' SH score was high. Considering the importance of SH and its effect on academic achievement, educational policymakers should provide the basis for promoting students' SH to improve academic performance through needs assessments, tailored programs, and workshops.
