The effects of Vaccinium arctostaphylos L. extract on the levels of glucose, oxidation indicators, HDL and cholesterol in diabetic rats (Wistar).

Introduction: Vaccinium arctostaphylos L. is  one of the medical plants  that used in the treatment of diabetes. The aim of present study is to determine The effects of Vaccinium arctostaphylos L. fruit  Methanolic extract on the levels of glucose, oxidation indicators, HDL and cholesterol in diabetic rats (Wistar).

Materials and methods: In this experimental research, 24  male wistar rats divided into groups (healthy control,  diabetic control ,  diabetic groups  feeding with methanol extract at doses 150 mg/kg bw and 250 mg/kgbw. The effect of 30 days intraperitoneal injection Vaccinium arctostaphylos L. Fruit Methanolic, extract  at the doses of 250 mg/kgbw, 150mg/kgbw on the blood  biochemical parameters , after single STZ  60 mg/kgbw intraperitoneal injection in diabetic Wistar male rats was done.

Results: the Findings  comparison groups diabetic rats  Feeded with the extract of Qara-qat fruit extract shows that the most effective in reducing glucose levels and increase HDL and paraoxonase activity and reducing malondialdehyde and weight loss of related to methanol extract concentration 250 mg/kg  most effective exteract in reducing cholesterol, protein carbonyl methanol extract concentration 150 mg/kg (P <0/05).

Conclusion: This study  demonstrated that Qara-qat fruit extract able to decrease the negative effects of diabetes on  Biochemistery factors after induction of diabetes-induced changes can improve symptoms and Therapeutic role of show.
