Abstract

Introduction: Myocardial infarction is one of the most common causes of death in worldwide. Venous thrombolytic therapy is one of important treatment in acute phase of this disease. Although, benefit of thrombolytic therapy is approved in patients with age less than 75 years but beneficial effect of this treatment in old patients is controversial. The aim of our study is evaluation of venous Streptokinase side effect in old patients.

Methods: This cross- sectional descriptive study was done on 100 patients with acute myocardial infarction that received venous Streptokinase and blood, cardiovascular and allergic side effects were evaluated. Then these data was analyzed by SPSS.

Results: Our patients consist of 82 men and 18 women with mean age of

11.7 years Old.   ± 61.7  .These patients divided to two groups under and above 70 years old. Although, cardiac complications were the most common side effect of Streptokinase in both group but we didn’t find any meaningful difference Streptokinase’s side effects between two groups except for sinus bradycardia (p=0.04) and hypotension (p=0.02).

Conclusions: Although, There were a few complications of Streptokinase in old patients but this treatment in these patients especially in centers without emergency angioplasty facility should be consider.
