The accuracy of Edinbourgh postpartum depression test.

Abstract

Postnatal depression is a keyconcept for mother infant mental health ,Evidence of its impact on mother –infant relationship has been increasingly in recent years.

Therefore optimal intervention is important for women and their babies mental health  .Identifying risk factors of postnatal depression and developing screening system are needed

Method :

Validation of EDPS was conducted on a 230 sample of women who were within their 8 week postpartum. structured diagnostic was  beck depression inventory that was used as the gold standard test.

Result :

The study of sensitivity , specifty and predictive values indicated  that ,the best (sensitivity in this test was (64.58),specify(76/5),positive predictive value (62),and negative predictive value was (79/2),fulse positive rate( 34/1),true positive rate( 23/4),accuracy of test( 72/6).

Conclusions:

It was concluded that values for the validity were respectable , but not excellent , the EPDS is a useful as a screening tools inside other clinical method  for assessing postnatal depression
