A survey of the Prevalence of Self-medication and the Factors Affecting it in PregnantMothers Referring to Health Centers in Arak city, 2009

 Abstract:

Introduction: Self-medication is one of the most health problem specially in population women for locating sensitive period imstance pregnancy. The purpose of this study was to assess prevalence self medication and some factors effected in mothr  with pregnancy in Arak city.                                           

Materials: Through a descriptive- cross sectional study 400 women with pregnancy referring health centers Arak city random selected and then interviewed through a questionnaire.                                                                                                              

Results: Result indicated that %12 of all women committed self medication . The most common disease for which they were used were respiratory ، Anemia and  Alimentary respectively. The most common factors underlying self drug consumption were negligence of the disease، and don’t accsses insurance and inability to offord the visit fees of the physicans. Adminsterated drug consumption was more prevalent among 25 to 35 years old women and less prevalent below 20 years . It was also more prevalent among governmwnt employees. Morther relationship between a selfmedication and age ، Job and litracy level (P<0/05).

Conclusion: Since drug production demand high expenses and self administration may induce harmful side-effectes specially in women social locating in sensitive period pregnancy that cause abnormality birth thus necessarily reform in the cultural and don’t use self medication in women recommended.
