Research Center for Social Determinant of Health, Medical Education development center, Jahrom University of Medical Sciences, Jahrom,Iran<br />Advances in artificial intelligence have sparked paradigm shifts in medical education, presenting both transformative opportunities and complex challenges. AI-driven tools—such as adaptive learning systems, sophisticated clinical simulators, and advanced data analytics—hold immense potential to enhance educational quality by improving diagnostic precision, minimizing medical errors, and fostering equity in learning. Despite these benefits, integrating AI into medical curricula comes with significant hurdles, including digital disparities, ethical concerns surrounding data privacy, growing reliance on technology, and evolving faculty roles.<br />A key challenge lies in redefining traditional academic authority, transitioning instructors from mere knowledge providers to facilitators of dynamic learning experiences. Additionally, the generational divide in digital adoption between educators and students complicates the effective implementation of AI-driven methodologies. To bridge these gaps, it is crucial to establish faculty development initiatives, implement ethics-based regulatory frameworks, and promote blended learning models.<br />The future of medical education hinges on achieving a balanced integration of human expertise and digital innovation. Strengthening data literacy and nurturing critical thinking skills will be essential alongside technological advancements. Success in this transition demands interdisciplinary collaboration and a reevaluation of conventional educational structures. This study explores AI’s role in the classroom and its long-term impact on medical education, analyzing key challenges—including shifts in academic authority and the generational digital divide—to provide insights for educators and policymakers navigating this evolving landscape.

Introduction: In recent years, the use of toy lasers has become increasingly popular among children. Due to their easy accessibility and availability for online purchase, these devices have become a significant public safety concern. In this article, we present a rare case of severe retinal injury caused by accidental exposure to a toy laser in a 13-year-old child.<br>Methods: A 13-year-old boy presented with rapid vision loss in his right eye following exposure to a toy laser pointer, with a visual acuity of 20/400 and a large macular scar (one-third the size of the optic disc). Fundoscopic examination, fluorescein angiography (fluid leakage and hyperfluorescence), OCT (abnormal neovascularization and subretinal fluid), and OCTA (abnormal blood flow) confirmed choroidal neovascularization secondary to laser-induced retinal injury. The patient was treated with two intravitreal injections of aflibercept (one month apart), which resolved the intraretinal fluid. However, after six months, visual acuity did not improve (remained 20/400) due to the macular scar. This case demonstrates permanent retinal damage and lack of treatment response. The unusual aspect was the presence of an extensive macular scar at initial presentation, which did not improve despite prompt treatment.<br>Conclusion: This rare case of severe macular injury and laser-induced neovascularization, which—unlike most previously reported cases—did not result in visual improvement despite early treatment, highlights the critical importance of public education regarding the potential dangers of these devices and the need for strict preventive measures.

Spiritual health (SH) is a significant dimension of health, influencing other health dimensions. This study aimed to explore the relationship between SH and academic achievement of students at Jahrom University of Medical Sciences (JUMS).<br>Materials and methods: This cross-sectional analytical study was conducted on 400 students from JUMS using a random stratified sampling method. Data were collected using a questionnaire included demographic variables, the Iranian Academy of Medical Sciences Spiritual Health Questionnaire (IAMSSHQ), and the students' grade point average (GPA). <br>Results: The average age of the students was 20.6 ± 2.7 and 57% were female. The average total SH score was 196.2 ± 31. There was no significant difference in the total SH score or its domains (insight, attitude, and behavior) between male and female. A significant positive correlation was found between the total SH score (r = 0.25, p < 0.001) and the domains of insight (r = 0.23, p < 0.001), attitude (r = 0.26, p < 0.001), and behavior (r = 0.21, p < 0.001) with the GPA. Besides, SH had a significant relationship with economic status, but it had no significant relationship with other demographic variables. Furthermore, a significant relationship was observed between students' GPA and age, gender, field of study, and economic status (p < 0.05).<br>Conclusion: The students' SH score was high. Considering the importance of SH and its effect on academic achievement, educational policymakers should provide the basis for promoting students' SH to improve academic performance through needs assessments, tailored programs, and workshops.

Introduction: Obesity and low serum vitaminD (VitD) levels are important risk factors for chronic systemic inflammation, and an inactive lifestyle contributes to the enhancement of these factors. This study aimed to investigate the effect of two months of high intensity interval resistance training and VitD on the serum concentratio Materials and Methods n of adiponectin and interleukin-6 (IL-6) in women with VitD deficiency.<br>Materials and Methods: In this study, 52overweight and VitD deficient women were selected through convenience and purposive sampling and then randomly divided into control, exercise, VitD, and combination groups. The exercise program consisted of 5 exercises in three sets (6 repetitions/set, with an intensity of 80% of one repetition maximum with20 seconds of rest) and 3 sessions/week. VitD was consumed weekly with a dose of 50,000 units. One-way analysis of variance and Kruskal-Wallis tests were used to analyze the data.<br>Results: All three interventions led to a significant increase in adiponectin concentration and a significant decrease in IL-6 (P<0.001). The effect of exercise in reducing IL-6 and increasing adiponectin was greater compared to VitD consumption(P<0.001). But the combined intervention had significant synergistic effects in the changes of these variables compared to the other two interventions(P<0.001).<br>Conclusion: It seems that high intensity interval resistance training, VitD consumption and combined intervention can help reduce systemic inflammation in overweight conditions with VitD deficiency partially by reducing the inflammatory index of IL-6 and increasing adiponectin. Although the combined intervention has been associated with stronger effects in the changes of these variables.

Background and Objective: Seizures are one of the most incurable diseases in human society today, and researchers are looking for better treatment methods and more drugs in this field. This study was designed and implemented to help find an effective herbal medicine without side effects in this regard.<br>Methods: Scutellaria multicaulis was extracted by maceration method. Forty eight male mice were randomly divided into 6 groups of 8: 1- control group, 2- saline and pentylenetetrazole group (seizure model), groups 3 to 5 received hydroalcoholic extract of Scutellaria multicaulis intraperitoneally for one week at doses of 30, 90 and 150 mg/kg. And on the seventh day, seizures were induced by intravenous injection of pentylenetetrazole. Group 6 or positive control, which received phenobarbital at a dose of 4 mg/kg intraperitoneally for one week instead of the extract, The latency to seizure onset and the total antioxidant capacity and malondialdehyde of the hippocampus and serum were measured in them.<br>Results: All three doses of the extract increased the latency to seizure onset. The extract of the Scutellaria multicaulis increased the total antioxidant capacity of the hippocampus and serum. The level of malondialdehyde in the groups receiving the extract showed a significant decrease (p<0.001).<br>Conclusion: The hydroalcoholic extract of the Scutellaria multicaulis, while showing anticonvulsant effects, reduced oxidative stress by increasing the total antioxidant capacity and reducing the level of malondialdehyde of the hippocampus and serum.

Introduction: Physical literacy contributes to the quality of life by utilizing the inherent capacity for movement. Accordingly, the purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between physical literacy and psychological well-being of adolescents, considering the mediating role of physical activity. <br>Material and Methods: The current research was descriptive and with correlational strategy. The statistical population included the students of the high schools in the cities of Mazandaran province in the year of 2022-2023. Based on the sampling method of Munro (2005), 600 subjects were selected using cluster random sampling method. In order to collect data, the questionnaires of demographic, socioeconomic status, physical activity of adolescents (PAQ-A), physical literacy of Sum et al. (2016), psychological well-being of children and adolescents Stavraki et al. (2022) was used. Data analysis was done using U-Man-Whitney test, Spearman correlation and structural equation modeling through SPSS23 and PLS3 softwares. <br>Results: The results showed that in all variables of the research, the level of score obtained in the boys' group was significantly higher than the girls' group (P<0.01). There was also a relationship between physical literacy and psychological well-being of adolescents (P<0.001). In addition, the findings revealed that physical activity plays a mediating role in the relationship between physical literacy and psychological well-being of adolescents (P<0.001).<br>Conclusion: Research findings support the development of physical literacy in schools as part of a comprehensive approach to support students' psychological well-being and special attention should be paid to developing the physical and mental health of adolescent girls.

Introduction: Empathy is a complex social emotion that can be challenging to understand and measure. This study investigated the correlation between empathy and academic performance among students at Zabol University of Medical Sciences.<br>Materials and methods: This cross-sectional descriptive-analytical study was carried out among 220 students at Zabol University of Medical Sciences in 2025. We collected comprehensive data through a three-part questionnaire, which included sections on basic information, academic performance, and Davis's standard empathy questionnaire. The analysis of this data utilized SPSS version 19 software, employing independent t-tests, analysis of variance, and correlation coefficients, all at a significance level of α<0.05, ensuring rigorous evaluation of our findings.<br>Findings: The average age of the students was 22.51 ± 2.11 years, and the average GPA of the previous academic semester and the total GPA of the students were 16.43 ± 1.55 and 16.24 ± 1.52, respectively. 41 (18.6%) of the students reported moderate empathy and 179 (81.4%) reported high empathy. The mean empathy score was significantly higher in female students, living in private homes, and with local admission than in other groups (p<0.05). A weak direct linear correlation was observed between the empathy score and the previous semester's GPA (r=0.167, p=0.013) and the overall GPA (r=0.150, p=0.026) of the students. Also, a weak direct linear correlation was observed between the academic turmoil score and the overall GPA of the students (r=0.145, p=0.031).<br>Conclusion: Empathy, as a key psychological trait, is associated with individual, social, and academic factors and can influence academic success.
