Introduction: Zinc is one of the essential trace elements present in the structure of many enzymes and is essential for growth, development, reproduction, and central nervous system and immune system function. This study was carried out to determine serum zinc status among primary school children in Neyriz.

Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out on 205 randomly selected primary school children with an age range of 7-11 years. 3ml fasting blood venous was obtained from children and the serum zinc level was measured by atomic absorption spectrophotometer. The data were analyzed using descriptive tests and student t- test.

Results: The mean serum zinc concentration was 88.08±34.37 μg/dl , being significantly higher in boys (P< 0.05). 30.2% of them had zinc deficiency.

Conclusion: The Results reveal that zinc deficiency is a nutritional problem among primary school children. Further studies are recommended to be conducted in inorder to find the main causes of zinc deficiency, aiming at eliminating it.

Introduction : Hirsutism is a common problem in young women. It could be a sign of internal glands diseases (e.g. : ovary , adrenal , hypophysis , …). The aim of this research was measurment of the serum level of hormones produced by these glands in women with hirsutism .

Materials and methods : This cross – sectional , descriptive research was conducted on all the hirsute women that referred to Dermatology clinic of Jahrom from April 2004 to April 2005. Their serum level of Testosterone , Dehydroepiandrosterone - sulphate (DHEA-S) , prolactin , Luteinizing hormone (LH) and Follicle – Stimulating Hormone (FSH) were measured with ELISA method . Testosterone > 1/2 , DHEA-S >4/1 , prolactin > 25 and >3 were considered abnormal . The Data was analysed using chi –square method .

Results : On the results of this study , 59 patients out of 81 (72/8%) had positive FHx of hirsutism and 42 (52%) had irregular mensturation . Serum testosterone , DHEA-S and prolactin were high in 9/9%, 12/7%, 10/1%,respectively and 23/8% had >3 . High level of serum testosterone , DHEA-S and prolactin didnot have a significant correlation with irregular mensturation, Positive FHx and marrital status . > 3 had significant correlation with irregular mensturation (P<0/001) , but didnot have any significant correlation with age, merrital status and positive FHx. Overall 34 patients (42/5%) had at least one abnormality in their laboratory examination (testosteran or DHEA-S or prolactin or >3 ) .

Conclusion :59 Out of 81 patients (72/8%) had positives FHx of hirsutism .Therefore, it seems that genetics has a significant role in inducing hirsutism . Many patients with hirsutism [34 pts (42/5%)] had at least one hormonal abnormality . Thurs screening tests , measurment of hormones such as testosterone , DHEA-S , prolactin , LH and FSH are neccessary for patients with hirsutism .

Introduction: Renal transplant patients who receive immunosuppressive drugs are prone to opportunistic infections such as CMV. CMV activity occurs in patients who have IgG anti CMV , causing severe morbidity, with high mortality and transplant rejection.

This study was conducted to detect the prevalence of anti CMV (IgM, IgG) before transplantation and long term follow up of active CMV disease incidence.

Methods: In this descriptive analytic study, all of the 70 patients who were candidates for renal transplantation during 1381-1384 were studied in Al_Zahra Hospital of Isfahan .After blood sampling and filling were out the questioners, Elisa test for anti CMV (IgM, IgG) was performed and the prevalence of these antibodies were calculated. Also, the prevalence of these antibodies was calculated according to age and a gender and long term follow up was done for the incidence of acute CMV infection following transplantation.

Results: 64 out of 70 patients (91/4%) had IgG-anti CMV. There was 38 male (59/4%) and 26 female (40/6%). Two of them who were female has had IgM anti CMV. person had IgM-anti CMV that both of them were female (100%).There was relationship between anti CMV IgG prevalence and age (p<0/05) and no relationship between anti CMV IgG and gender.

There was no relationship between anti CMV IgM and age/gender. Two cases (2/8%) of active CMV disease occurred during six months after transplantation , one of whom rejected the transplant.

Discussion: According to the prevalence of anti CMV IgG among the studied patients, there was a high risk of re infection which causing sever complication and transplant rejection .Therefore to prevent sever infection and resulting infection, it is recommended that CMV serology be performed before transplantation Also ,weekly PCR as a screening test and detecting anti genenia pp are recommended.

Many physiological and psychological changes occur in women during pregnancy and often delivery , after accompanied by pathologic changes . The present study aimed at surveying and assessing pregnant women’s mental health during pregnancy and its refuted factors.

Material & Method :

This is a cross-sectional study ,researching about 214 pregnant wormens mental health referring to the maternity clinics in jahrom . The data were corrected using random cluster sampling method The instrumpet of the study was a questionnaire containing demographic information and 90 scl90 questions used for detecting mental disorders .The data were an alyzed both descriptively and analytically using frequency and chi-squeal tests.

Result :

There results revealed that the disorders with the highest frequency was depression (94%) and , anxiety (90%) and the lowest belonged to psychosis (54%) . it was shown that many of them suffered symptoms of disorder about 43% of them .

Conclusion:

It can be said that mental health care during pregnancy is as important as physical care , that we need defined and identified suspicious mother and we need defined and identified suspicious mother and we need mental and we need mental care to prevent such disorder.

Introduction: Zona is a disease occurring due to reactivation of dormant Herpes Zoster virus in the dorsal root gangelion and manifesting by vesicular rash in one dermatom. In old patients with underlying disease it is severe and has more complications.

Methods: In this criss-sectional and descriptive study 100 patients diagnosed with zona were reviewed in Al- Zahra hospital in Isfahan. The patients were divided into three age groups . under 20 year old, 20through50years and above 50 years old information such as sex prevalence, underlying disease, the involved dermatome and complications were gathered. The data were analyzed using spss statistical package ,version 13.

Result: 1% of the patients were under 20 years, 16% between 20 and 50 years and %83 over than 50 years old. 45%of the Cases were male and 55 %were female.Their Mean age was 61.4 ± 2. of 100 patients 68 cases had underlying disease. 23 cases a history of surgery in the last two months. (52/2% male, 47/8% female), and 15 cases diabetese type II (46/7% male and 53/3% female). 13 cases had malignancy (69/2% male, 30/8% female), 13 cases had used corticostroid (46/2% male and 53/8% female) and 4 cases had psychological disorder that all were female. The most involved dermatom in the patients was 34 trigeminal, 24 thoracic, 7 cervical, 16 lumber, 12 sacral and 7 generalized. There was significant relation between underlying disease and the involved dermatom (P<0.001). All of the patients with generalized dermatom were immunocompromised.

Conclusion: Zona is more common and severe in the immunocompromised patients and people suffering from underlying disease. Therefore, this necessitates prevention of disseminated forms and complications of the disease through increasing the patients, awareness in this regard and earlier presentation for treatment.
