:: Guide for Authors ::

Submission

 All manuscripts must be contributed solely to Journal of Jahrom University of Medical Sciences and not be under consideration for publication elsewhere.

• Manuscripts must be written in Persian. Avoid writing English statements with known Persian synonymous. • Abstraction must be written both in Persian and English.

• The text should be typed in Microsoft Word. In English parts, use Times New Roman 12 for text and Times New Roman 14 for headings. In Persian parts, use B Mitra 12 for text and B Mitra 14 for headings.

 • The figures must be sent in a GIF or JPEG format with high quality. • Please refrain from giving footnotes. Use parentheses to provide supplementary information for the text.

• When abbreviations are used for the first time in the text, write the complete words or phrases they represent and then proceed with the recognized form of abbreviations.

• All manuscripts must be submitted online. Use the link on the homepage http://jums.hbi.ir and upload your manuscript following on-screen instructions. Manuscript preparation

1- Manuscripts should be arranged in the following order: Title Page, Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Material and Methods, Results, Conclusion, Acknowledgement, References, Tables and Figures.

 2- Title page: Title should not contain abbreviations. The title page should contain the complete title of manuscript, the full names of all authors with their highest qualification, the department or institute to which they are affiliated and information about corresponding author(s) regarding their affiliation(s).

 3- Abstract: An abstract of no more than 250 words in length should accompany each manuscript describing precisely what was done, the results which were obtained and the conclusions drawn. It should be structured as Introduction, Material and Methods, Results and Conclusion followed by 3-6 Keywords. Please use the terms from the Medical Subject Heading (MeSH) list of Index Medicus (http://www.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/MBrowser.html).

 4- Introduction: This should summarize the purpose and the rationale for the study. It should not have data or conclusions of the study.

 5- Material and Methods: This should include the exact method of observation or experiment. If an apparatus is used, the manufacture's name should be given in parenthesis. If the method is established, references should be given and if the method is new, adequate information should be given. Drugs must be used as generic names with doses and routes of administration. The patient's name, sex and the mean age must be given. Statistical methods and the software(s) used should be mentioned.

 6- Results: it must be presented in the form of text tables and illustrations. The contents of tables should not be repeated in the text; instead, a reference to table number may be given.

7- Conclusion: This must be compared the present findings and the variation and similarities with other works. Detailed data should not be repeated in the discussion again. New and important aspects of the study should be expressed in conclusion.

 8- Acknowledgement: All contributors who do not qualify for authorship should be covered in acknowledgement section. It should include persons who have provided technical help, writing assistance and general support. Financial and material support should be acknowledged.

9- Illustrations and tables: All figures and tables should be cited in the text and each numbered consecutively throughout. Tables should have a title (placed above) and a legend explaining any abbreviation used in that table. Footnotes to tables should be indicated by asterisks for significance values and other statistical data. Figure should be limited with high quality on separate pages. The caption should be placed below. The same data should not be presented in tables figures and text simultaneously.

10- Abbreviations: nomenclature and symbols. Abbreviations should be defined at first mention in the abstract and again in the main body of the text and used consistently thereafter.

 11- Measurement units: Laboratory values should be described in metric mass units. The international system of units (SI units) can be provided in parentheses immediately after metric units.

 12- Footnotes: Footnotes to the text are numbered consecutively.

13- References: References should be in English. References should be numbered consecutively in order of their appearance in the text and listed in numerical order.

The list of references should only include works that are cited in the text and have been published or accepted for publication (“in press”).

Personal communications or unpublished data cannot be included in the reference list and should be mentioned in the text in parentheses including a date. Permission must be submitted when citing a personal communication. References with correct punctuation should be styled as follows:

# Journals The titles of Journal should be abbreviated according to the Index Medicus. Write down the three first authors and then et al. For Example: Halevy R, Smolkin V, Bykov S, et al. Proof reading: A computer prints out is sent to the corresponding author for proof reading before publication in order to avoid any mistakes. Corrections should be marked clearly and sent immediately to the journal office.

Page Charges: There are no charges for publica‌tion in this journal.

Corresponding author(s) will be supplied with 3 free issues.

Ethical guidelines: Ethical considerations must be addressed in the Materials and Methods section. 1) Please state that informed consent was obtained from all human adult participants and from the parents or legal guardians of minors. Include the name of the appropriate institutional review board that approved the project. 2) Indicate in the text that the maintenance and care of experimental animals.

Conflicts of interest: Authors must acknowledge and declare any sources of funding and potential conflicting interest such as receiving funds or fees by or holding stocks and shares in an organization that may profit or lose through publication of your paper.

Covering Letter:

Peer review process: All manuscripts are considered to be confidential. They are peer-reviewed by at least 2 anonymous reviewers selected by the editorial board. The corresponding author is notified as soon as possible of the editor decision to accept reject or require modifications. If the manuscript is completely acceptable according to the criteria set forth in these instructions it is scheduled for the next available issue.

The final checklist: The authors must ensure that before submitting the manuscript for publication they have taken care of the following:

1. Title page should contain title, name of the author/co-authors, their qualifications designation and institutions they are affiliated to and mailing address for future correspondence, E-mail address, Phone and Fax number.

2. Abstract in Structured format up to 250 words.

 3. References mentioned as stated in the Instruction to Authors section.

 4. Tables should be typed on separate pages.

6. Check the Headings of Tables, their numbers and also the Captions of illustrations. Don’t repeat the information in tables if it is covered in the text.

 7. Photographs/illustrations along with their captions.

8. Letter of undertaking signed by all the authors.

 9. Disclosure regarding source of funding and conflict of interests if any besides approval of the study from respective ethics committee/institution review board. 10.
