Introduction: Purposes and background: Breast cancer is the most common cancer among the women, 1 out of 8 women is affected by that.in case of early detection, less invasive treatments are available and also patients’ quality of life will be improved .So, we decided to analyze the prevalence of focal asymmetric density in screening mammography and sonography findings among a group of women in community. Methods and materials: This study is cross-sectional and all the women who referred to BESAT clinic in Kerman city between 23.9.2013 to 23.9.2014 for performing screening mammography were entered into the study. Of the total 900 women referred to Besat clinic, 105 women have focal asymmetric density. After sonography and easy non-random sample collection, sonography compared with mammography. Findings: people’s average age was 44±7.3 with minimum age of 29 and maximum age of 61.in sonography findings, 30 (6.28%) cases had no lesion, 2 cases (1.9 Percent) had malignancies and 73 (69.5%) cases had benign lesions.in the last group, 52 cases (49.9%) had lesions in right breast, 50 cases (47.6%) had lesions in left breast and 2 cases had bilateral breast lesions. Conclusion:Imaging techniques with clinical examinations are recommended for screening of the breast cancer. But with regard to limitations of sonography and mammography in diagnosis of breast cancer, in case of being highly suspicious to malignancy, biopsy should also be done.
